What makes any model of the Enterprise especially “Star Trek: The Motion Picture”? For me, there are two things. First, the color of the ship was not so chalky white but shone (which drove the people responsible for the special effects crazy, but looked great on screen), and second, it’s the only film wherein the deflector dish was gold (ostensibly for short-range, slower the the speed of light travel) AND blue (for faster than light, warp travel. The film mixed this up, but that was the intention). This is a great product, but I (figuratively, because it ain’t that important) “lament” that no industry or manufacturer markets these noticeable traits – especially when it’s marketed as a 40th anniversary for that film, and it looks more like NCC 1701-A. I suppose, if I weren’t so lazy, I could just get myself some model paint and fix it myself. But this is why I give it a 4 instead of 5 stars.

Has it really been forty years since Star Trek the Motion Picture premiered? Guess so. So here we have a Hallmark Keepsake ornament of the Starship Enterprise. Excellent detail, looks great, just like the “real” thing. Battery, (provided in the box), powered lighting of the warp drive nacelles and sensor dish, provided a bit of color to the ornament. Perfect gift for the Trek fan in your life, or just for yourself. The only problem I’ve run into, and further experimentation may be necessary is that the lights don’t seem to want to turn off when the little button is pressed. No problem in getting the lights to turn on, but I seemed to have trouble getting the lights to turn off. Even with that possible problem, I’d still heartily recommend this item.

This was a christmas gift for my mom who loves Star Trek the original series. I was so excited to give it to her. She opened it up and took it out and one of the top thingys that has the lights was broken. All the lights do work though. My mom just glued it and it is fine now. Still though it takes away from the fun. Anyway I do recommend it as a gift for a star trek fan. I just hope yours doesn’t come broken. The broken part is why this only gets 4 stars.

Mine arrived new in a box with one of the nacelles at a weird angle. Wasn’t attached right and eventually fell off. Had to glue it back in place and at a better angle. Looks nice but is more fragile than previous incarnations of the hallmark enterprises. Packing in hallmark box could be better too. Retail price is kind of high as well. Buy it on sale. In the end still a nice addition for our tree. Note: this does not light up like other star trek ships do.

My husband has been collecting the Star Trek ornaments for more than 25 years. He has quite a collection now and enjoys stringing them up with lights at the holidays. The price on Amazon is VERY good, much lower than what I used to pay at the Hallmark Store.

I still miss the plug-in Hallmark ornaments. This one is a better quality than some of the past few years, but still not like they were in the early 2000’s.

Here is the USS Enterprise refit from Star Trek The Motion Picture. Hallmark celebrated its 40th anniversary by releasing this USS Enterprise. It is approximately 3 inches long and has a lot of detail. When you push the button located on the bridge area on the primary hull, the lights come on. The inside of both nacelles are lit as well as the deflector dish. This is battery operated and takes three batteries. The primary hull does not light up. Years before Hallmark made the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-A. That ship had lights in the primary hull, the secondary hull and the nacelles. The only thing I would change about this one is that the Primary hull would light in the bridge area and underneath in the sensor dome. But overall this is a great addition to anyone’s Star Trek Collection.

It’s a cool looking ornament and a great collector’s item, but these new Hallmark ornaments have no plug in option available so the ornaments do not stay on continually with the light strings they used to plug into. They also don’t make the Legacy cord anymore that you could use to plug in the older ornaments. This is absolutely unacceptable. In the meantime, though, you can buy these new ornaments but realize that when you push the on button it means the ornament will stay on for about 30 seconds and then automatically shut back off. I doubt I will be buying anymore Hallmark Keepsakes until they offer a Legacy cord and the ability to have continuous illumination for both the older and newer ornaments. I have three of the older ones which would still function perfectly if Hallmark would get their act together and manufacture the cord.
