I’ve run a number of RPG campaigns in my day and none have been as easy to explain and run as Modiphius’ 2d20. The core mechanic is tell the GM what you want to do, they tell you the difficulty and what stats to roll, such as “Control + Security, difficulty 2”. You look at your character sheet, see Control is 10 and Security is 4. Add them together, then roll 2 20-sided dice. Any number that rolls UNDER the total is a success. If you get greater than or equal to the difficulty, you’ve succeeded in your task. That’s basically it. There are more systems to help you create drama, but everything comes down to that system, and it works REALLY well. I’ve run a dozen games of it so far, and they’ve been some of the smoothest RPG sessions I’ve ever run.

Just starting to play this game, so not terribly familiar with the rules yet, but looks good. The part that really impresses me is the depth of information on the game world. Hardcover. Quality paper. I don’t like the glossiness of the pages though. I find it hard to read when light is hitting it at the wrong angle.

This is a very well made and beautiful book. The rules are not terribly complicated and even easier to learn when combined with watching people play the game on youtube in Shield of Tomorrow, Clear Skies, and Blood of the Void (Klingon Campaign). Tons of history about the Federation and many other cultures as well as ships, weapons, equipment and everything else you need to know to play the game. Great binding, glossy pages, it is a full size hardcover book despite what the measurements say in the description, which is even better. If you know quality book when you see one, you will not be disappointed. Even if you don’t play the game this book is still a fascinating read full of Star Trek lore and interesting tidbits. I highly recommend. Well worth the cost especially from Amazon.

This book is for you because it is wall to wall text.If you are familiar with star tree’s computer screens on TNG, the whole book is designed like that. The white and yellow text on the black background are easy on the eyes. The purple texts get hard to focus on. I’ve seen YouTube comments saying it is difficult to read with color blindness. That aside, the game is really good. The character building has more steps than dungeons & Dragons but that is because you are building a character more for a story rather than a math equation parading as a murder hobo. But if murder hobo is what you want, go buy the Klingon rule book. Same system but written in the perspective of Klingons and encourages you to kill aliens on strange planets.

Email Modiphious about the free PDF version they sent me a free copy!! Just had to send a picture with the book and my email address, they sent me a copy of the PDF no problems at all..You might think why would you need a pdf file? Printing character sheets and quick reference sheet to important information..Do I like the 2d20 system its not what I am used to, but for plot and story telling and making a game flow like a story its really great for that.. as for stats gear and the like its a little lacking..Still have not figured out the bonus you get for rolling under a certain number? But I am still skimming the book and have watched a few videos as well… book came lose in a box? and slid around, corners a little bent but not enough to worry about..

This is, in my opinion, absolutely the best Star Trek tabletop RPG! It nails every aspect of Trek in the various systems it uses and Modiphius’ 2D20 system, in general, is fantastic. Another plus is that your character starts out as an extremely competent Starfleer officer, rather than a low powered individual that needs many sessions to get to a level you want to play them at.

Needs to be a little more detailed about character creation and game play is more complicated.

In an age of excessive RPG splash page art and rules sets with such minimal text and tables rendering them completely useless as rules sets – this gets it right. Rules, setting, suggestions along with, and not completely overwhelmed by, art that informs the setting. The “big names” in pen and paper gaming have lost the thread entirely, but Modiphius Entertainment turned out a solid product here.
