This is a nice item, It was packaged in a clear plastic clamshell that was sealed all around. I pulled it out of the package and noticed that there was a silver spot right on the black part. I thought it was just a piece of lint but when i went to wipe it off with my microfiber cloth it turned out to be a a piece of the metal like it the enamel was hit and left a hole which caught the cloth. I checked the clamshell and saw that right in that spot on the clamshell had a scuff and small hole in it. I attached pics of the badge .cons: the weight of the item is heavy ( compared to my voyager badge purchase years ago) , the backing completely covers the whole backside which makes it heavy.Pros: magnets are sturdy and hold well the black part looks like its black enamel over metalOver all despite the issue with the black part having a defect this is a very nice product.

The black part is clearly painted, and the whole thing varnished. This varnish is bit scratchy and why people think it’s plastic. A good automotive scratch remover is an idiot proof way to make it GLEEM. Follow up with an good auto “quick detailer” spray and it will resist finger prints too.

This badge is not only attractive and very “TREKKISH,” but also durable with the magnet fasteners providing a strong hold.

The pics don’t show it but mines came with a smaller version that you can pin on your lapel. The big one has a strong magnet so I don’t think it will fall off. Very pleased
