Coveted addition to my complete Star Trek blu-ray collection. Now, if only they’d give DS9 and Voyager the same treatment they gave Next Gen, I’d have everything I need to be completely happy with my Star Trek shelf. This is a must-own for any serious Star Trek fan. (But if you’re a serious Star Trek fan, you already know this.) For the not-so-serious fan, here’s what’s so interesting about this product. The original Star Trek series suffered from several challenges of the political, financial and technical variety, but none of these was as inhibitory as the special effects limitations placed on the television industry at the time. Anyone who’s watched the original episodes knows that almost every alien species that the crew of the Enterprise encountered looked pretty much human, with only some makeup or basic prostheses to differentiate them from the actors playing them. Sure, there were exceptions like the Gorn, but I mean, seriously? I think that example just reinforces the point. When presented with the opportunity to animate a continuation of that series, the creative talent behind the franchise immediately recognized the format’s ability to free them from these physical limitations, and to allow them to recreate the story in an innovative and more prolific way. They capitalized on this, producing aliens, landscapes and other environments that would have been impossible to realize in human actors, sound stage sets, earth-bound locations and physical models. The writing style isn’t always amazing, but several of the story lines are integral to the Star Trek universe, and play an important role in the later series, especially Enterprise. Just watch it and see!

It seems to me the audio sync problem people have reported has to do with the poor quality of Filmation Animation that made the series. Their speech/facial animation is less than good especially when compared with today’s animation. Lips move very little and there is no visible facial feature expression.from wiki: “Filmation’s animation often looked poor quality, due to the limiting of the number of frames per second to fewer than the standard 24 frame/second seen on film or 25/30 frame/s seen on video. Frames would be repeated to compensate for the deficiency, resulting in a jerky and cheap look.”The story’s are solid though but do seem rushed compared to TOS’s 52 minute original broadcast episodes; the animated series episodes are 24 min. I would have really liked to have seen these episodes in a 4th season of TOS; oh well.Doohan, Takei, Nichelle Nichols and Majel Barrett do a lot of the additional voices in the series, pretty obviously, to me at least.I have seen a comparison of the DVD versus the Blu ray definition and the Blu ray really is worth it. Realize though that the animation is a lacking especially compared with today’s standard’s and probably even 70’s standards.

This is for fans of the original series. It consists of seasons one and two which is the entire run for this show. The series includes the voice acting of William Shatner, Leonard Nemoy, DeForest Kelly, James Doohan, and the others from Star Trek the original series. The episodes are bite sized like 30 minutes each. The animation and sound effects are as good as it gets for a cartoon from the sevendees. If you like Star Trek there might be a good chance you will like this too.

This is a great HD transfer of this classic Trek show. Video and audio quality is excellent. Unlike some other reports I see no audio sync issues on the Blu-ray set. The show is treated like Season 4 and 5 of the original 1966 series run and the stories are more imaginative due to the lack of live-action limitations. The show has aged well and is still very enjoyable. If you’re a Trek fan this is a no-brainer.

The Star Trek animated series has excellent storytelling although you will have to get over the quite dated animation. However, the original Star Trek cast does the voices and the quality is where it could be an audio book in it’s own right. Very creative stories and it is sad to see that Star Trek today has fallen to social engineering rather than imaginative adventures. Perhaps some day they will make realistic CGI and backgrounds and then use the audio of the animated series to make this appeal to the current generation. I mean…. If they can CGI and bring back Luke Skywalker then why not Spock?

Great picture quality and a Play All option. Great set. Well written series as well!

Finally I’ve decided to pick this up and finish off my Star Trek Blu-ray collection; but still holding out hope for DS9 and Voyager transfers. I’ve never seen this series until now and I’m really enjoying it, especially due to the fact the entire cast is back voicing their respected characters. It’s well known that the Enterprise is on a 5 year mission and somebody said that the 3 seasons of the original TV series were the first 3 years of its journey and the 2 seasons of the animated show make up the last 2 years. I’m viewing that the same way. I’m mostly done with the show and recommend it to anyone who is a fan of Star Trek. Don’t miss out!
