I’ve always wanted my own Star Trek: TNG phaser, and I still want one after buying this toy.Pros:It looks fairly accurate from a distanceExcept for the orange “safety cap” (because you don’t want people to mistake this for a REAL phaser!), it has a good-looking black and silver paint scheme (rather than that silly blue-and-white-toy color scheme that Ruby phaser props have). It makes three different phaser sounds: “short pulse”, “long pulse”, and “three-round-burst”.Cons:Very lightweight, since it’s mostly hollow plastic. I might put some weights into mine to give it more heft. The phaser body seems blockier and wider than the the screen props appear to be. This is probably simply to make room for the batteries. The handle is so large and has such square corners that it is uncomfortable to hold, even with adult-sized hands. It’s like holding a one-by-one. Children might find it difficult to hold. Somebody should talk to Starfleet about improving the ergonomics. But it’s a cheap toy, so what do you expect?
A Real Person –
As other reviewers have stated, this is NOT what you want if you want an accurate replica of this prop. It’s a toy. The materials are cheap, the quality control on the paint job is spotty (mine was okay), it’s not a great sculpt, the details of the markings are inaccurate, and it is slightly undersized. To be clear, it does NOT light up, but it does make noise. It has an annoying orange tip for no reason whatsoever – does this REALLY look like a real-life weapon? Seriously?? Someone’s going to mistake this for a gun?? Maybe Harry Potter wands should have orange tips, too, then. I use it for cons where I won’t care if I drop and break it. It is recognizable for what it is supposed to be. My first one broke after light use – the fire button broke and then it would not stop firing – and it was so cheap I didn’t really mind buying another one.

I feel like they could make this a little better for $15 but it’ll work for my Star trek costume so it’s all good

While there are other phasers available online, I decided to give this one a shot as it was somewhat cheaper (most of the nicer ones seem to be $30 or more plus shipping), but unfortunately it’s not cheap enough to justify how mediocre it is. Aesthetically I would describe it as acceptable, but not more than that. It does look like a phaser, or at least an approximation of one. The proportions are as they should be, though the paint isn’t convincing. The feel is terrible – it’s extremely light, with no heft in the hand, and the plastic has an unpleasant texture. The sound isn’t super important to me but the effects aren’t great if that’s something you’re wondering about.I ordered a “like new” one shipped and sold by Amazon, and to say it was “like new” would usually be a stretch. The screw holding the battery compartment was stripped, it was a challenge to get off and wouldn’t close all the way once I put batteries in. The paint also has visible wear. Usually this is the kind of information that goes in a seller review rather than a product review. However, in this case, I think it’s quite relevant, because the quality of the product is so poor I can actually believe this was used once, put back in the package, and returned.Don’t buy this for more than $10. At its typical price of around $20, you’re far better off buying something from a better costume site, Etsy, or even a 3D printed model.

Exactly what I thought it would be.

This lasted 8 hours of the Ren Faire with my husband turning it on every 10 minutes or so. It still has juice in it. It has to go through its repertoire of sounds. You can’t choose what you want to hear. It’s generally well-made for the price. Don’t expect crisp and clean edges on the plastic. It is definitely a cheap toy.

Looks great and works great. I definitely recommend if you’re a fan. Very cool

It will suit my purpose in having all the phasers from star trek. You can get a little more realistic but it will cost you.
